Joel Pearson to present male and female winner’s trophies

Two time Melbourne to Warrnambool winner Joel Pearson will be on hand on Raglan Parade on Saturday to award the 2019 Powercor Melbourne to Warrnambool the winner’s trophy.

The trophies – which are mini versions of the famous Melbourne to Warrnambool monument on Raglan Parade in Warrnambool – have been designed and produced by the Melbourne to Warrnambool Road Race Committee.

It will be the first time the winners of the race will receive a trophy on top of the coveted finishers medal.

“I am both honoured and excited to be able to hand over the winner’s trophy on Saturday in what is shaping up to be one of the most interesting “Warrny’s” in years.

“Having confirmed a seat in the convoy, I was secretly hoping for strong crosswinds, rain, sunshine and every other meteorological condition to shape a tough race however the new course mixed with a cracking field are going to throw up a lot of excitement and twists and turns in the narrative along the way.

“It would be great to see Nathan Elliott complete the three peat and be able to hand the trophy to him, however he will have his work cut out with my personal favourites in Team BridgeLane and Van D’am Racing both fielding strong teams not to mention the other strong teams and individuals.

“Good luck to all the participants and see you in Warrnambool!”

Having a former winner of the race present the trophies signifies a commitment from the Melbourne to Warrnambool Road Race Committee to recognising and acknowledging the history of the race.

The first female rider and the first Warrnambool Rider will also receive trophies.
